Lakan
(n.) Paramount Ruler
 
In early Philippine history, the rank of Lakan denoted a "paramount ruler" of the large coastal towns. In present-day culture, the term is still occasionally used to mean "nobleman". In fact, in Filipino Martial Arts, Lakan denotes an equivalent to the black belt rank.
 
Sold as a pair, these earrings have been handcrafted featuring the colourful abalone shells on 925 silver backings. No piece will ever look the same, as the shells naturally form according to the tides and waves of the ocean.
