Mahal

(n.) Love

‘Mahal kita’ is the Tagalog phrase for ‘I love you’. The word “mahal” has its origins in the Arabic word for “place“(مكان) . In a series of linguistic shifts spanning the South and Southeast Asian regions, its meaning drifted from ‘Palace’ to ‘Expensive’. In the Phillipines, this was further expanded to also mean “love”, since love is priceless. Give this statement piece as a sign of your love; be it to yourself, or to those for whom you care dearly.
